Letting Go

Letting Go was written and created during the final months leading up to the death of my mother. This project was conceived as a cathartic means of dealing with the deep pain and loss of witnessing my mother succumb to a devastating terminal illness. Playing with the aesthetic of the traditional herbier (pressed flower journal), Letting Go is part naturalist archive part auto-biographical memoir.

Tara Ernst is a visual artist, poet and documentarian. Working in themes of nostalgia, memory, archives, traditional women’s roles and motherhood, Tara uses every possible means to navigate through real life stories of experiences. Tara lives with her son and husband on a hobby farm near Lunenburg, Nova Scotia.
